Overview of Major Cities Near Flushing - Flushing - 1

Living in Flushing, you often find yourself wondering, "How far is it to get to certain places by car?"

I prefer looking at maps over using GPS, so I've compiled a list of major cities within a 50-mile radius (about 80km) of Flushing. This should be helpful for those who are new to the New York metropolitan area or want to get a better sense of the surroundings.

First of all, all five boroughs of New York City are within 50 miles. It takes about 30 minutes by car to reach Midtown Manhattan (though it can take over an hour depending on traffic), and about 40 to 50 minutes by subway on the 7 line. Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island are, of course, included. Queens is so large that even traveling from Flushing to Jamaica or JFK Airport takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Areas with a significant Korean population, like Great Neck, Manhasset, and Forest Hills, are also nearby if you head toward Long Island.

Heading toward New Jersey, you can quickly reach towns like Fort Lee, Palisades Park, and Leonia, which have a high concentration of Koreans, by crossing the George Washington Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel. These towns are about an hour away from Flushing. Edgewater, Englewood, and Tenafly also fall well within the 50-mile range. Newark, Jersey City, and Hoboken are included as well. Some people head to New Jersey for shopping or gas due to the differences in taxes and living costs.

In the direction of Connecticut, cities like Greenwich, Stamford, and Norwalk are within 50 miles. Stamford is about 40 to 50 miles from Flushing and is a popular city for New York commuters. Greenwich is known for being a high-income residential area in the U.S. New Haven is slightly over 50 miles but is often mentioned by Korean students and visitors because it is home to Yale University.

Heading upstate New York, Yonkers is the closest at about 25 miles, and cities in Westchester County like White Plains, New Rochelle, and Mount Vernon are about 30 to 40 miles away. This area has relatively lower housing costs compared to New York City and good school districts, making it attractive for families considering relocation. A 50-mile radius is surprisingly wide, offering quite a few options. While the perceived distance may vary depending on road conditions and public transportation access, knowing the surrounding geography can definitely help expand your living radius.
