Finding Affordable Neighborhoods to Live in Detroit - Detroit - 1

Detroit is one of the major cities in the U.S. where housing costs are relatively low.

However, each neighborhood has its own atmosphere and safety levels, so blindly searching for the cheapest places can lead to disappointment.

I've compiled a list of areas I researched by visiting them in person.

East English Village is located on the east side of Detroit, with home prices ranging from $100,000 to $200,000, and rents are relatively affordable. The neighborhood has a quiet residential feel with many old brick houses, making it quite tidy overall. Gentrification is slowly progressing, so there is potential for increased value in the future.

Woodbridge is a neighborhood near Wayne State University, home to many artists and young people. Houses range from $150,000 to $300,000, and people from diverse backgrounds live here, creating a vibrant and unique atmosphere. Rents are slightly higher than the surrounding areas, but the proximity to amenities is a plus.

Hamtramck is technically an independent city located within the boundaries of Detroit. It has a unique atmosphere due to the presence of various immigrant communities, including Yemenis, Bangladeshis, and Polish. With prices ranging from $70,000 to $120,000, it is very affordable and has a walkable lifestyle.

While Korean families may need to do more research before settling here, it is definitely one of the more cost-effective options.

Many Korean families prefer suburbs like Troy, Novi, and West Bloomfield over downtown Detroit itself.

Although rents are a bit higher, there is a clear difference in school districts and safety. I recommend carefully considering your budget and priorities before making a choice.
