There are so many hotels in Miami. Just in South Beach, there are rows of hotels, and if you expand to downtown, Brickell, and Doral, the options seem endless.
So for first-time visitors, it's often easier to start with well-known hotels that have a distinct character.
One of them is Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
This hotel is more than just a place to stay; it's a symbol of Miami Beach.
Opened in 1954, it is a massive resort with over 1,500 rooms and suites.
Stars like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin frequented this place, and it even appeared in the movie Goldfinger.
From the moment you step into the lobby, you can feel the blend of old American glamour and modern Miami vibes.
This is not just a hotel for sleeping. It has multiple pools, many restaurants and bars, and a large spa.
Especially on nights when famous DJs perform at LIV Nightclub, the hotel transforms into an entertainment hub.
The issue is the price. During the winter peak season from December to April, even standard rooms easily exceed $400 per night, and on weekends or during events, they can go up to $600-$800 or more. Suites or higher-end ocean view rooms can easily surpass $1,000 per night. Plus, taxes and resort fees are added on top of that.
So just because the booking screen shows $450 doesn't mean that's all you'll be charged on your card.
On the other hand, if proximity to the city is more important than the beach, InterContinental Miami might be a better fit.

It's located right in front of Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami and is a large hotel with over 600 rooms.
The views from the rooms overlooking the bay and downtown skyline are quite impressive. The atmosphere here is different from Fontainebleau.
It's more suited for business and convention stays, as well as pre- and post-cruise accommodations, rather than a beach resort vibe.
It's close to Bayfront Park and easy to get to Brickell, making it great for dining and shopping.
Rates typically range from $250 to $500 per night, and they can go higher during major events or peak cruise demand.
One thing to always check when booking Miami hotels is the resort fee. Depending on the hotel, this can add $30 to $60 or more per night.
This fee often bundles services like pool access, fitness center, internet, and beach services, and you may have to pay it even if you don't use those services.
Parking fees can also be significant. High-end hotels in Miami Beach can charge $50 to $70 per day for valet parking. If you bring a rental car, your total costs can increase significantly. Ultimately, you should choose a hotel that fits your travel purpose.
If you want to enjoy the beach, pools, and nightlife all in one place, go for Fontainebleau.
If you're considering downtown sightseeing, business, and cruise schedules, then InterContinental Miami is the way to go.
When booking Miami hotels, it's more important to look at the final total cost than just finding a cheap room.
If you book based only on room rates and then see a receipt with resort fees, taxes, and parking charges, it might change your mood on the last day of your trip.
