What I liked most about coming to Burbank is that you can exercise outside all year round.
Unlike in Korea, where you don't want to go out in winter, there are no excuses here.
Burbank's climate is great for exercising. With low annual rainfall and many clear days, outdoor activities are possible throughout the year.
However, there are days in summer when the temperature exceeds 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), so it's best to exercise early in the morning or in the evening during the peak summer heat.
If you love hiking, Burbank is a paradise. There are several hiking trails in the Verdugo Mountains north of Burbank. Wildwood Canyon Park and Brace Canyon have trails of varying difficulty. Easy trails are great for families, while more challenging routes attract fitness enthusiasts. The view of Burbank and LA from the top makes the climb worthwhile.
Q: How about biking? A: The flat areas in Burbank are great for biking. Especially around Johnny Carson Park and the Chandler Bikeway, there are dedicated bike paths for safe riding. There are also bike routes connecting to nearby Glendale. Electric scooters and bike-sharing services are available in Burbank as well.
Jogging and walking are fundamental exercises in Burbank life. Parks like McCambridge Park, Verdugo Park, and Johnny Carson Park have tracks or walking paths. If you go to the park early in the morning, you can see many residents jogging. Some neighborhoods are designed to be walkable, making the Magnolia Park area a popular spot for evening strolls.
There are also various indoor exercise facilities. Large fitness centers like LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, and 24 Hour Fitness are located in Burbank. The swimming pool operated by the McCambridge Park community center is affordable. There are also several Pilates and yoga studios, so it's not hard to find a workout that suits your taste.
Burbank's Parks and Recreation Department runs various sports leagues. There are adult softball leagues, basketball leagues, and tennis clubs, providing great opportunities for those who want to enjoy team sports. It's also a good way to build a new community. Registration information can be found on the Burbank city website (burbankca.gov).
Building an exercise habit in Burbank isn't as hard as you might think. The parks are close, the weather is supportive, and there are many people exercising in the area. In fact, not exercising can make you feel guilty for wasting such a good environment. This is one of the biggest advantages of living in Burbank.
