Seeing that Fort Worth's crime rate is 3% lower than the national average might lead you to think it's a decent place, but that would be a big mistake.
The average number often obscures the differences between neighborhoods. In reality, the perceived safety can vary greatly depending on where you live in Fort Worth.
As of 2026, Fort Worth's overall crime safety rating is C+. The likelihood of being a victim of violent crime is 1 in 278, while property crime is at 1 in 49. Notably, property crime is 10% higher than the national average, with vehicle theft being particularly severe. The chance of your car being stolen is 1 in 197, which is a common concern. This highlights the importance of choosing parking spots wisely and considering the installation of dash cams.
Safe neighborhoods consistently rank high in the northwest area. Places like Park Glen, Cobblestone, North Fork Estates, and Eagle Ranch have an A+ safety rating and also boast higher median household incomes. This area has many new developments and is well-maintained, making it popular with families. Arlington Heights, TCU/Westcliff, and Far North are also considered relatively safe. In contrast, data shows that Downtown, Southside, and Southeast areas have crime rates that exceed the city average, so it's wise for newcomers to keep this in mind.
The areas to be most cautious of include the southeastern neighborhoods like Stop Six Sunrise Edition, Southeast Kingdom, and Mulberry Heights. These neighborhoods have significantly higher violent crime rates than the city average. This is why you shouldn't choose a place just because it's cheap; often, there are reasons for the low prices.
Ultimately, perceived safety comes down to whether I can walk comfortably at night. Statistics are just a reference, and I strongly recommend visiting the area twice, both during the day and at night, before moving. Posts from local residents on community apps like Nextdoor provide much more realistic information.
Fort Worth is a city worth living in, but I believe careful neighborhood selection is crucial. It's better to rely on personal experience than just statistics.
