Taxpayers in Los Angeles County will have their California tax reporting deadline for 2024 income extended to October 15, 2025, and taxes due between January 7 and October 15, 2025, will also be postponed.

This extension is part of the federal tax filing deadline extension provided to victims of the recent California wildfires.

California State Controller and FTB (Franchise Tax Board) Chair Malia M. Cohen stated, "Our state is experiencing one of the deadliest wildfires in recent history, resulting in many lives lost, thousands of households displaced, and many communities severely impacted. I extend my deepest condolences to all those affected. You are not alone. I will do my utmost to ensure that California residents receive the assistance they need through the disaster relief resources provided by the FTB."

Extended Tax Filing and Payment Deadlines:

  • Individual taxpayers: The tax filing and payment deadline previously set for April 15, 2025, has been extended.
  • Quarterly estimated tax payments: The previous deadlines of January 15, April 15, June 15, and September 15, 2025, have been extended.
  • Businesses (corporations and pass-through entities): The tax filing deadlines previously set for March 15 and April 15, 2025, have been extended.
  • Pass-through entity (PTE) elective tax payments: The previous deadlines of March 15 and June 15, 2025, have been extended.
  • Tax-exempt organizations (nonprofits, etc.): The tax filing deadline previously set for May 15, 2025, has been extended.

The Governor of California declared a state of emergency in the wildfire-affected areas and received a Major Disaster Declaration from President Joe Biden. This allows residents and businesses in the affected areas to benefit from tax relief.

Additionally, taxpayers in the disaster areas declared by the President can apply for the Disaster Loss Deduction, and reflecting losses on their 2024 tax returns can expedite their refunds.
