Miami Airport Amazon Cargo Plane Accident, At Least 5 Dead After Skidding Off Runway - Miami - 1

Living in Miami, Miami International Airport feels very close.

No matter where you go in the city, you can see planes flying overhead, and there are many occasions to go to the airport to pick up family or friends.

So when I heard the news about a major accident at Miami International Airport yesterday, it didn't feel like just someone else's story.

On Sunday, September 6, around 2 PM, an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane that had just landed in Miami skidded off the runway. The aircraft was a Boeing 767-300 freighter.

This plane is not operated directly by Amazon; it was being flown by the cargo airline 21 Air, which was transporting Amazon cargo, and it is said to be a 32-year-old model.

The plane that overran the runway continued on past the end of the runway, colliding with several vehicles and ultimately causing a fire.

As of now, at least five fatalities have been confirmed, and five others were transported to the hospital. Among them, three are reported to have serious injuries.

It is said that both the pilot and co-pilot were trapped in the cockpit immediately after the accident but were rescued. Over 60 rescue and fire vehicles and about 200 personnel were deployed to the scene.

In addition to the fire, there was also a fuel leak, making the recovery efforts at the scene quite complicated.

The 767 involved in the accident is said to be about 32 years old. It was not originally built as a freighter but was converted from a passenger aircraft to a cargo plane later on.

However, just because the plane is old does not mean we can definitively determine the cause of the accident.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are currently investigating. They need to examine various factors such as speed and braking systems at the time of landing, the condition of the aircraft, wind, and weather.

In the released footage, it appears that the aircraft landed at a high speed, overshooting the intended landing point, raising questions about whether the decision to land was appropriate.

Miami experiences heavy rain that can come down suddenly and strong winds can arise unexpectedly.

There were reports of thunderstorms and gusts around the airport at the time of the accident, but until the investigation results are out, we cannot say for certain that these were the causes.

This accident has significantly impacted airport operations. Flights were suspended for a time, and numerous flights were canceled or delayed.

I am not someone who has lived in Miami for 40 years, nor am I an aviation expert. I'm just an ordinary man in my 40s living here.

However, seeing the news that a plane I have passed countless times while picking up family has skidded off the runway, hitting vehicles and resulting in loss of life feels strange.

We often think that once the wheels touch the runway, we are almost there.

Before the seatbelt sign even goes off, we are already thinking about turning on our phones and getting off quickly.

But this accident shows that landing does not mean the flight is over.

It is particularly shocking for those living in Miami because it happened at a familiar airport where hundreds of planes take off and land every day on an ordinary Sunday afternoon.

I hope the cause of the accident is clearly identified so that such an incident does not happen again.
