The first is Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts (FWAFA).

As an arts-focused charter school, it ranked 125th among Texas high schools and 36th in the Dallas Metro area according to US News in 2025.

It is in the top 20% of public schools in Texas. This school is well-known for students who want to delve deeply into the arts, including music, visual arts, theater, and dance.

Since it operates as a charter school within FWISD, there is a separate application process, and it is advisable to check information early.

The second is the World Languages Institute. It is a representative excellent school of FWISD, ranking 25th in Texas and 193rd nationally according to US News in 2025.

As the name suggests, it focuses on multilingual and language immersion education, but it also has a high overall academic level, providing strengths in college preparation.

Young Women's Leadership Academy also ranks 34th in Texas and 233rd nationally, making it a very high-level option, but as the name implies, it is a school that only admits female students, making it a good choice for families that qualify.

Both schools are charter or specialized program schools, so they require separate applications rather than general address assignments.

The third is R.L. Paschal High School. It is one of the oldest traditional public high schools in Fort Worth, with a unique history and campus size.

It has 2,147 students, and the student-teacher ratio is 17 to 1. AP courses, AVID, JROTC, and fine arts programs are offered.

While its academic performance indicators are somewhat below the state average, some families see the variety of extracurricular activities and the large number of students as advantages.

As an address-based assigned school, students living in the district are automatically assigned.
