When I first saw the hospital called Medical City Plano, I was a bit surprised by its size. I didn't expect such a large hospital in a suburban city.
Medical City Plano is the largest hospital in Collin County, representing Plano, with approximately 600 beds.
Nearly 1,700 specialized medical professionals provide care in over 70 fields, and it is recognized as one of the top medical institutions in North Texas.
The hospital's greatest strength is that it is a Level I Trauma Center. This means it has the highest level of trauma center designation in the U.S., equipped to treat critically injured trauma patients 24/7, such as those from car accidents, gunshot wounds, or falls.
Not all hospitals in Texas have this designation, making it a significant advantage for local residents.
The hospital is also strong in cancer treatment. The Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute operates within the hospital, providing integrated medical services from cancer diagnosis to surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Local residents appreciate that they can receive high-quality cancer treatment without having to travel to downtown Dallas.
The heart center and women's and newborn center are also large.

They offer treatment for cardiovascular diseases and heart surgeries, as well as a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for high-risk mothers and newborns, making it a popular choice for families preparing for childbirth.
Additionally, they operate various specialized centers, including neurosurgery, orthopedics, robotic surgery, and emergency medical services, providing a wide range of medical services.
The hospital is still growing. An expansion project worth approximately $108 million is underway, aiming to add new wings, operating rooms, and patient facilities by 2027. This is in response to the rapidly increasing population in the North Texas area and the corresponding rise in healthcare demand.
For Plano residents, Medical City Plano means more than just a local hospital. It is the first hospital that comes to mind in emergencies, and many people handle everything from regular health check-ups to specialized care here. With a large medical staff, it is relatively easy to find specialists in specific fields.
Of course, healthcare costs in the U.S. can vary significantly depending on insurance coverage. However, in terms of the hospital's quality alone, Medical City Plano has a competitiveness that is rare in suburban areas. Good access to healthcare ultimately leads to a sense of stability in life.
Plano has a strong image as a quiet residential city, but its medical infrastructure is as solid as that of a major city. Just the fact that Medical City Plano is nearby helps explain why it is considered a great place to live with family for a long time.
