Choosing a Home in Springfield Based on School Districts: Which Area is the Best? - Springfield - 1

People moving to Springfield often ask about the school districts.

When I first chose a neighborhood, I looked for schools, and the more I researched, the more I realized that Springfield is quite competitive within FCPS (Fairfax County Public Schools).

FCPS ranks 45th among 129 school districts in Virginia. This is well above the overall average, and within that, Springfield has some standout schools.

Starting with elementary schools, Sangster Elementary is a prime example. It ranked 2nd in Virginia's Best Public Elementary Schools according to US News & World Report, with a math pass rate of 98% and a reading pass rate of 94%, far exceeding Fairfax County's averages of 72% and 71%.

Sangster Elementary is part of the West Springfield cluster, which is why many people choose to buy homes in this elementary school zone. West Springfield High School also ranks 27th among 328 public high schools in Virginia according to SchoolDigger, with a graduation rate of 97%, so you can expect a consistent educational environment from elementary through high school within the same cluster.

In terms of residential communities, Daventry is frequently mentioned. It is an established single-family home community located within the West Springfield School District. Newington Forest and Lakewood Hills are also noted for their good access to top schools and well-equipped community facilities.

Orange Hunt is known as the most prestigious neighborhood in Springfield, where home prices are higher but the environment is stable. Cardinal Forest is also favored by families due to its good school district and park access.

When considering school districts and residential areas together, Springfield offers more options than you might think.

Areas like Annandale, Burke, and Centreville are also part of FCPS and have their own strengths, and even within Springfield, the school configurations vary by cluster. It's essential to first check which elementary school feeder line you belong to before looking for a home. This is truly the way to choose a home in this area.
