After going through the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the reorganization of the education system, it officially changed its name to 'University of South Carolina' in 1906, and since 1944, it has become the central institution of the state university system. Throughout this historical development, USC is now regarded as one of the most active research universities (R1 classification).
There is confusion because the University of South Carolina (USC) shares its name with the University of Southern California (also USC) in California, and when people hear 'USC' in sports news, they often unconsciously think of California first.
This is because the Southern California USC has strong brand power nationwide. However, in the southern region, especially in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina, people naturally think of their local USC first and explain to those who confuse the two that "there is an Eastern USC as well."
The moment I entered the campus of the University of South Carolina (Uni. of South Carolina), I was truly surprised that the school was not just a few buildings gathered together but felt like a small world wrapped in greenery in the middle of the city.
The old red brick buildings felt warm despite showing signs of age, and the large trees that provided shade and wide lawns made the entire campus feel comfortably like a park.

Especially the moment I stepped into 'The Horseshoe', I realized this was not just something I had seen in photos; it truly had a living feel. Students resting on benches, reading books on the grass, and a tour group continuing on one side... The scene where the school's history and youthful energy mixed together was truly impressive.
As I walked, I naturally made my way toward the student center, and I bought an iced coffee at a nearby café and slowly explored the campus. I couldn't just pass by the school bookstore. When I went in, I found everything from sweatshirts, hats, keychains, to tumblers with the USC logo.
