When I started working in marketing in the United States, I thought advertising was all about newspaper ads, TV, radio, billboards, and flyers.
However, everything began to change when Google, the search company, launched Google Ads.
As a marketing company employee, I manage clients' advertising budgets every month and help elevate their brands online.
The reason I am writing this is simple.
Many people still do not realize how powerful 'Google Ads' is and how significant the economic impact of 'search' can be.
Google generates about $690,000 in advertising revenue every minute.
Of this, if we calculate only the revenue from Google search ads, it accounts for about 57%, which means $400,000 per minute.
When you just searched for "Chinese restaurant near me", "car insurance", or "gift ideas for girlfriend's birthday", each small 'Sponsored' ad that appears above or beside those results generates that revenue.

Alphabet, Google's parent company, had a total advertising revenue of a staggering $374 billion in 2024, which is about 520 trillion won in our currency.
Of this, the amount earned from search ads alone is about 57% of the total, exceeding $210 billion.
This means a single company generates more revenue from the action of 'search' than countries ranked 30th in the world GDP.
However, the more important thing is not the numbers. It is that those ads actually lead to purchases, and that is what matters.
SNS ads need to capture people's 'interest'. In contrast, Google search ads target people who already have 'purchase intent'.
For example, someone searching for "massage chair recommendations" has a clear need for a massage chair.
And if the perfect ad appears at the top for that person? It is a very natural flow for them to click, view the content, and make a purchase.
One beauty brand I managed had a Google search ad ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) that was more than three times higher than YouTube videos or Instagram ads.
By investing $10,000 a month, they generated a net profit of $30,000, and since then, this brand has increased its search ad budget fivefold, now generating over 70% of its total online sales from Google search.
Google knows every word you search, every link you click, every video you pause on YouTube, and every newsletter you receive in Gmail. We call this 'behavior-based targeting'. AI analyzes the timing to induce clicks, the appropriate keywords, and what phrases to use to execute ads.
In one educational service I managed, I ran ads with completely different phrases for people searching for "free English conversation classes" and those searching for "U.S. immigration English tests".
The result? The click-through rate and conversion rate differed by more than double. Even as I write this, over 100,000 searches are being conducted every second worldwide.
If you are not in a 'sellable position' within that, you are already losing countless opportunities to competitors.
Google Ads is not just a platform for burning money. It is the best marketing channel that captures intentional customers at the most appropriate moment.
Of course, none of this happens automatically. The results can vary greatly depending on how you select target keywords, when you concentrate your budget, and how you optimize cost-per-click (CPC).
That's why we open the Google Ads manager page every day and analyze the numbers.
Raising the click-through rate from 0.2% to 0.3% can significantly impact the client's revenue.
One thing I have realized while working in this industry is that Google is no longer just a 'search engine' but a tool for reading the world.
People's desires, needs, anxieties, and expectations are all left in the search bar, and marketers must read and respond to them.
How much is your product being exposed on Google right now?
When people search for 'you', is the first screen showing competitor ads?
Search equals purchase.
The moment you accept this simple truth, marketing elevates to a completely different level.
