The word Quail means quail in English.

So when you first hear the name 'Quail Lake', it evokes a feeling of a small lake in a forest filled with little birds.

In fact, small birds often fly around this area, creating a charming atmosphere that complements the lake scenery. However, Quail Lake is not just a pretty-named lake; it is a special space where you can feel nature up close in the city.

It is located not far from the center of Colorado Springs, so you can easily reach it by car.

This makes it a great place for light hiking or walking without having to venture deep into the mountains. The trail around the lake is about 1.3 miles, roughly 2 kilometers, making it easy to exercise and perfect for a stroll.

I often just wear sneakers and carry a bottle of water for a light walk.

Walking along the lake, you can see Pikes Peak in the distance, which is a refreshing sight.

On clear days, the mountains and clouds reflect on the lake's surface, sparkling like a mirror, while on cloudy days, the calm atmosphere offers a different charm.

So every time I visit, even if I walk the same route, the scenery always changes depending on the weather and time of day.

This place attracts many families, and you often see residents walking their dogs.

It's peaceful to see children riding their bikes or throwing stones by the lakeside. You can also easily spot people fishing, as the lake is stocked with trout, making it a popular spot for anglers. The big advantage is that you can enjoy fishing right in the city as long as you have a fishing permit.

My favorite time is around sunset. As the sun sets in the west, the red light seeps over the lake, and my steps naturally slow down. The sight of waterfowl taking off and the shadows of trees cast over the lake is so beautiful that it makes me forget the fatigue of the day. At that moment, it's hard to believe that this is a lake in the city, as I become immersed in nature.

What makes Quail Lake special is its convenience. You don't have to climb a big mountain to feel nature; you can experience it right in the city. There are many restaurants and cafes nearby, making it easy to stop by for a break or a meal after your walk. Perhaps that's why a variety of people come here, whether to exercise, take a light stroll, or just sit by the lake to relax.

When you think of hiking, you might picture a strenuous mountain climb, but it doesn't have to be meaningful only if you sweat while climbing. Enjoying the scenery with a light walk in the city, like at Quail Lake, and breathing in nature, even for a moment, is a perfectly good hike. Whether you live in Colorado Springs or are just visiting, this place will be a comfortable refuge for everyone.

Ultimately, Quail Lake is a place that is simple yet warm, just like its name. One could say that a small and precious peace, like a quail, resides in this lake.
