Community College: Fullerton College and Cypress College - Anaheim - 1

While Anaheim does not have its own community college, there are two excellent community colleges within a 10 to 15-minute drive.

Fullerton College and Cypress College are the main options, primarily serving local residents.

Fullerton College is part of the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD), located at 321 E. Chapman Ave, Fullerton, CA 92832, and its official website is fullcoll.edu.

Established in 1913, it is one of the oldest community colleges in California, with an enrollment of about 23,000 students. It offers a variety of programs, including majors and vocational training, transfer preparation courses, and lifelong learning opportunities. For students preparing to transfer, there are well-established support services for transferring to four-year universities such as CSUF, UCI, and UCLA. It is conveniently located about 5 miles north of Anaheim.

Cypress College is also part of NOCCCD, located at 9200 Valley View St, Cypress, CA 90630, and its official website is cypresscollege.edu.

With an enrollment of about 12,000 students, it offers both traditional liberal arts education and vocational training programs. It is particularly known for specialized vocational training programs in Aviation Technology, Mortuary Science, and Radiologic Technology. The drive from western Anaheim to Cypress takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

The biggest advantage of community college is the cost. For California residents, the tuition for community college is about $46 per unit, totaling around $1,000 to $1,500 per year for full-time students.

Compared to four-year universities, it is affordable, and by utilizing California's 4-year university transfer system (2+2 pathway), students can transfer to UC or CSU and earn the same degree. Completing the IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) allows students to meet UC and CSU general education requirements at the community college level.

There are also well-established programs for adult learners and immigrants. ESL (English as a Second Language) courses, citizenship test preparation courses, and vocational retraining programs are available, creating a welcoming environment for learners whose first language is not English.

Many Korean students are enrolled at both Fullerton College and Cypress College, and there are cases where a Korean student association is active.
