Many people think of deserts and cacti when they hear Phoenix, but for golf enthusiasts, it's a completely different city.
The Phoenix and Scottsdale area has so many golf courses that during the winter, many people come down from the northern U.S. and Canada to play.
Especially from November to April, it's golf season. In the summer, temperatures can exceed 104°F, but in winter, the daytime temperatures are perfect for golfing.
With very few rainy days, it's no wonder it's a popular destination for golf trips.
The most famous course is undoubtedly TPC Scottsdale.
The Stadium Course, where the WM Phoenix Open is held every year, is right here.
Particularly, the par-3 16th hole is something even those who don't know much about golf have likely seen on TV.
During the tournament, the entire hole is surrounded by a massive grandstand, creating a completely different atmosphere compared to a typical PGA event where applause is quiet.
If the players do well, cheers erupt, and if they don't, there are boos.
Interestingly, the Stadium Course, where professionals play, can also be reserved by the public.
The issue is the price. Golf course prices in Phoenix vary greatly by season. During the winter peak season, playing 18 holes at TPC Scottsdale's Stadium Course can cost around $400 to $550. It can be even more expensive during famous tournament times.
Famous courses like Troon North and Grayhawk also see prices rise to about $250 to $350 in winter.
Thinking in Korean won, that's quite a sum for a round of golf. However, the situation changes dramatically in the summer.
As the crowds thin out, even famous golf courses can drop to around $100, and public courses can be played for much less.
TPC Scottsdale also becomes quite affordable in the summer, depending on the time and conditions. Of course, it's extremely hot.
So, if you're golfing in Phoenix during the summer, many people book very early tee times, around 6 or 7 AM.
If you book for 1 PM just because it's cheap, you might end up wondering if you're playing golf or doing endurance training in the desert.
Wildfire Golf Club is also well-known. It's located within the JW Marriott Desert Ridge resort and features two courses named after Arnold Palmer and Nick Faldo.
You can experience typical Arizona golf against a backdrop of cacti, red desert, and distant mountains.
It's not just expensive golf courses. Phoenix has many public courses operated by the city, so if you look carefully, you can find reasonably priced options for a round.
