Living in Victorville, I often hear people say, "There's nowhere to exercise here."
However, what I've realized from living here is that it's not an issue of environment but rather an issue of information. Those who look for options find them, while those who don't continue to say there are none. Based on my personal experiences, there are actually quite a few choices available.
First up is Mojave Narrows Regional Park. This place is surprisingly nice. It feels like walking along a riverbank in the middle of a desert city.
The trail runs alongside the Mojave River, with tree shade and well-maintained paths, making it perfect for jogging or walking.
If you go early in the morning, the air is definitely different. As you walk while listening to the birds, you might find yourself thinking, "Is this really Victorville?" There is an entrance fee, but if you plan to visit often, getting an annual pass is much better. The trail lengths vary, accommodating everyone from casual walkers to those looking to run longer distances.
Next is Westside Park. This one is free, making it easily accessible. It has a soccer field, basketball courts, and basic jogging routes, which are great for establishing a routine.
If you go around 6 AM, you'll already see quite a few people exercising. The atmosphere is comfortable even if you go alone. I've also established a consistent routine here.
If you prefer a quieter place to work out, Rotary Park is a good option. Located near Spring Valley Lake, the atmosphere is much more peaceful. The walking paths are well-maintained, and there aren't many people, making it a great spot for clearing your mind while you walk. It's more about stretching and relaxing than intense exercise.
For those who prefer indoor workouts, there's also Planet Fitness. At around $10 a month, it's definitely affordable. They have all the basic weight and cardio equipment, and the long operating hours make it easy to fit into your schedule. If you have a family, you might also consider the YMCA of the East Valley. They offer a pool, group exercise classes, and kids' programs, making it a versatile space beyond just working out.
The conclusion is simple. It's not true that there are no exercise options in Victorville. However, it is accurate to say that it's a "city where you won't find anything if you don't look." No one organizes and shares this information. It's necessary to explore and choose places that fit your lifestyle. Once you establish a routine, you can actually enjoy exercising in a less crowded and less stressful environment. Ultimately, what matters is not the location but the habit of staying active. It's definitely possible here.
