Join the Little Rock Marathon! - Little Rock - 1

Hello! It's already been over six months since I left Korea and settled here in Little Rock, Arkansas.

At first, I was worried about whether I could adapt to this unfamiliar southern city, which is neither a desert nor a big city. But those worries were unfounded!

Spring in Little Rock is truly dazzling and vibrant.

As someone in my mid-thirties, I wanted to build my fitness and make local friends, so I actively participated in the real spring festival in Little Rock and will share my experiences.

The start of my Little Rock spring festival was the 'Little Rock Marathon' held in March. When I turned thirty-five, I promised myself, 'This year, I will definitely create a healthy hobby.' Of course, a full marathon was out of the question, so I decided to challenge myself with the 5K course.

It was comforting to see that the participant barrier was low, with regular citizens like me and families pushing strollers joining in. As I approached the finish line, breathless and receiving tremendous support from the locals, my heart swelled as I hung that magnificent, huge medal around my neck. Completing a marathon in the heart of the southern United States, something I had never done in Korea, became one of my proudest moments in my thirties.

As the hectic month of March passed and the full spring atmosphere spread in April, the emotional 'Jazz in the Park' was waiting for me. Every week, after work, I would spread out a blanket along the riverfront park and enjoy the soothing jazz melodies flowing with the gentle river breeze; it was truly 'healing' in itself.

Since it's a free event with no admission fee, it's perfect to bring along a glass of wine without any burden. Just watching the friendly families and couples gathered on the grass enjoying the music made me feel the loneliness of living in a foreign country melt away. Fortunately, it will be held again in September, so I plan to go with my new local friends then.

And in May, we reached the peak of spring with the '501 Fest'! Isn't it cute that the festival is named after Little Rock's area code '501'? The entire downtown River Market District was buzzing, and I lost track of time dancing to lively live music and tasting the unique food truck offerings from local eateries. I even picked up a few cute handmade crafts from local artists to decorate my room.

Seeing the warm smiles and strong bonds of the neighbors made me feel a touching sense of belonging, thinking, 'Ah, I've really become a Little Rock resident now.'

It's not easy to enter a new community after turning thirty in a foreign land.

However, the spring festivals in Little Rock embraced me, who was once an outsider, so easily.

If you are considering moving to Little Rock or have just arrived, don't hesitate to immerse yourself in the rhythm of these vibrant festivals.

The true charm of the city and its warm neighbors are waiting for you!
