I have selected five campgrounds with lakes near LA. They are perfect for weekend outings within a 1-2 hour drive.

Castaic Lake State Recreation Area

An artificial lake located north of Santa Clarita, it is popular for water activities and fishing. Tent and RV sites are available for $30 each (per night), and it is convenient with restrooms, showers, and picnic tables. At sunset, gentle lights reflect on the lake, creating a romantic atmosphere.

Pyramid Lake Recreation Area (Los Alamos Campground)

A large resort lake campground at the foothills of the San Alejandro Mountains. It has 90 individual sites and 3 group sites, along with volleyball courts, a store, potable water, and flush toilets, making it popular for families.

Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area

An artificial lake located east of the San Bernardino Mountains, known for water sports (boating, kayaking, etc.) and fishing. There are a total of 136 sites in two campgrounds on the hills (Old Mesa/New Mesa), and you can enjoy RV full hookups (electricity, water, sewage) and simple trails.

Lake Gregory Regional Park

A forest lake park located in Crestline, featuring play facilities like a swimming pool and water park, as well as picnic areas under willow trees. While it is more focused on day use than camping, you can use the camping area with prior permission nearby.

Lake Hemet Campground

Located inside the Cleveland National Forest, this mountain lake at an altitude of 1,200 meters remains cool even in summer. You can enjoy fishing and hiking at the camping sites set among pine forests. It's also nice to stop by the nearby Idealwild village restaurant.

All five locations are easily accessible and perfect for enjoying the refreshing atmosphere of the water.

Just pack your camping gear, and you can quickly head into nature, so consider adding it to your weekend plans.
