These days, there are a lot of videos made with AI on YouTube. It seems like this trend has been around for about two years now.
At first, it was fascinating to watch. Cats talking like people, historical figures speaking, and creating movie-like scenes with just a few lines of input made me think the world has changed a lot.
But honestly, it's getting a bit tiresome now.
Especially when I see small channels I've never heard of that keep posting poorly made AI videos, I hardly watch them for more than a few seconds these days.
The faces and mouths move, but there's no soul in the expressions. The content is just AI voices reading things I've seen before.
I used to give them a few views, but now I'm busy hitting the dislike button to make sure they don't show up in my YouTube recommendations again.
I think the era where the fact that AI was used is enough to attract viewers is over.
However, I recently came across a video on YouTube that was a bit different.
'What if there were vlogs in the Joseon Dynasty?'
The setting is that a woman from Shin Yun-bok's "Beauty" becomes a real person and films her daily life as a vlog.
At first, I thought, "Oh, another AI video," and clicked on it without much expectation.
But as I watched, I found it surprisingly entertaining.
The protagonist from the painting seems to walk right out of the artwork and spends an ordinary day in Hanyang.
Just like modern women holding cameras saying, "Today, I'm going to check this place out," the woman from the Joseon Dynasty shows her life.
That alone is a good concept, but suddenly a guest appears.
It's the Mona Lisa. From here, the idea becomes unique. Why is the Mona Lisa appearing in the Joseon Dynasty?
It doesn't make sense that Shin Yun-bok's beauty meets Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, but the way they seamlessly connect that absurd premise is impressive.
They wander around Hanyang together and visit Gyeongbokgung Palace.
When you think about it, both the woman from the painting and the Mona Lisa are people whose faces we've known for hundreds of years.
In the paintings, they just sit still with the same expression.
The very idea of those two coming out of the paintings and walking around together was entertaining.
What was even funnier was when they returned to their ordinary lives.
They even did an unboxing in the style of the Joseon Dynasty.
When I think of unboxing, I first think of modern YouTubers opening delivery boxes to show cosmetics or electronics, but they brought that concept to the Joseon era.
Here, I started to understand a bit about the advantages of AI.
Truly interesting AI content isn't about showcasing technology with, "Look what AI can create!"
It's about a person first having a fun idea, and AI becoming a tool to show that idea, which couldn't be filmed otherwise.
You can't ask Shin Yun-bok to film a vlog with his beauty model, nor can you bring the Mona Lisa from France to Hanyang in Joseon.
But with AI, you can see that absurd imagination right in front of you.
I think this difference is quite significant.
Videos where AI takes the lead become tiresome after a few views.
But when a person's idea is at the forefront and AI supports it from behind, the story changes.
What sticks in my memory after watching isn't, "Wow, AI technology is amazing," but rather, "Who thought of bringing the beauty and the Mona Lisa together?"
That thought came to me first.
These days, with so many AI videos flooding in, most don't even surprise me anymore, but when a solid idea is applied, I'm amazed once again.
In the end, what matters in the age of AI is probably what comes out of a person's mind.
Since I, who was busy hitting dislike on AI videos, watched this one until the end, at least this video was something different.
