For golf lovers, Tucson is quite a serious option.
With over 300 days of clear weather a year, the courses designed on desert terrain provide a completely different experience compared to typical golf courses.
Hitting the ball between cacti with mountain ranges in the background is impressive even in photos, but it's even more striking in person.
A name that cannot be missed when talking about Tucson golf is Ventana Canyon. This course, located at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, was designed by world-renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio.
With 27 holes, the views of the Catalina Mountains and desert canyons are breathtaking. Guests of the Loews Resort have priority booking, and outside visitors can also make reservations. The difficulty level is intermediate to advanced, with reading the desert winds and slopes being key.
The second most frequently mentioned place is La Paloma Country Club. This 27-hole course was designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus and is located in the northern Catalina Foothills of Tucson.
Its design preserves the desert terrain, and each hole offers a different view, which has received praise for keeping the experience exciting throughout all 18 holes.
Starr Pass Golf Club is also a notable spot located in the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort on the west side of Tucson.
With 27 holes, the course impressively utilizes the dramatic terrain of the Arizona desert. Even if you are not a resort guest, you can pay the green fee to play.
In addition, there are several public golf courses like Reid Park Golf Course and Randolph Golf Course, providing many options for casual play. The green fees for public courses range from $30 to $60, while resort courses are over $100.
The prime season for golfing in Tucson is from October to April.
In the summer, temperatures rise too high, making it possible to play only in the early morning, while most of the courses are practically unplayable during midday.
Some people consider relocating to Tucson for golf, and the fact that it allows for outdoor rounds all winter is certainly a significant advantage.
