His childhood and school experiences led to an understanding and support policies for people with disabilities like dyslexia.
Gavin Newsom seems to have lived a truly interesting life. Born in 1967 in San Francisco, he grew up in a wealthy family, but after his parents divorced at a young age, he lived with his mother and sister. However, he struggled with severe dyslexia from an early age, making it very difficult to read and write letters and numbers. He faced many challenges in school, transferring schools and barely continuing his studies by learning through audiobooks and orally.
Despite this, he excelled in sports. In high school, he stood out in basketball and baseball, becoming quite well-known. He reportedly received interest from Major League Baseball and attended Santa Clara University on a baseball scholarship, although this part is somewhat controversial. There is a lack of official records or evidence, and his statements about baseball have been inconsistent. He has said he was a "great prospect" but later changed his story to say he "played a little baseball."
After graduating from college, he started a winery business, which was a real success. He grew it to employ 800 people while also operating restaurants, wine shops, and clothing stores. This business experience likely helped him significantly in his later political career.
Due to his experience with dyslexia, Newsom has a strong interest in education and equal opportunity. Even after becoming a politician, he emphasized many policies for people with disabilities. However, aspects like the controversy surrounding his sports career still raise some doubts. Nevertheless, Newsom's story is often cited as an example of how one can succeed despite setbacks.
