To start off, this article is just some random thoughts. Hehe.

From my observations, there is an interesting commonality among Korean individuals practicing their faith in Long Beach.

It's not that they only attend churches within Long Beach. In fact, many people go to churches in Torrance or Harbor City.

At first, I thought, "How do they commute that far?" But once you drive it, you understand the reason.

If you take the 110 Freeway South from Long Beach, you can reach Torrance or Harbor City in about 20 to 30 minutes.

In Southern California, many people consider this distance to be within the same living area.

So, during the weekdays, many Korean families live in Long Beach, but on Sundays, they go to churches in Torrance or Harbor City for worship.

Moreover, there are many well-established churches in this area. They operate English services focused on the second generation and actively continue ministry for the next generation.

In fact, the criteria for choosing a church in the U.S. is somewhat different from Korea.

While how close it is to home is important, many also consider whether the children's Sunday school is well-organized, if the youth group is active, and how many other Korean families with similar-aged children are present. As a result, some people consistently attend a church they like for years or even decades, even if it takes over 30 minutes to get there.

I've also realized something during my time in the U.S. A church is not just a place for worship.

It's a place to meet friends for the kids, to get good information about doctors, accountants, and real estate, and for newcomers to share job information. Thus, Korean churches often serve as both a faith community and a living community.

Long Beach is not a city with a very high number of Korean churches.

However, if you broaden your perspective to include Torrance and Harbor City, the options become significantly wider.

Since you can easily get there by taking just the 110 Freeway, I believe the best approach is to visit a few places for worship and find the church that fits your family best.
